Question by summer: after a dog has been wormed should the worms still be alive in his poo?
i’m fostering a dog for a rescue centre and just found a big worm in his poo, I thought she’d eaten an elastic band till it moved. Ive contact the centre to ask about worming and they said she’s been done and the worms come out alive. surly thats not right is it?

When do you pick up the poop? The worms may have arrived AFTER the stool was laid. Also, a dog doesn’t just get dewormed once, make sure she isn’t overdue.

I know about:
roundworms:If a roundworm burden is heavy, a dog may vomit these worms or pass them (whole) in the stool. Roundworms can cause vomiting and diarrhea. check for those.

Hookworms: Hookworms cannot be seen by the naked eye, This parasite has also been known to cause chronic intestinal bleeding, abdominal pain and diarrhea in small children. Some dogs experience significant weight loss, bloody diarrhea, or failure to grow properly. Skin irritation and itching, especially of the paws

Check into all the signs, and if you’re still concerned take a stool sample to your vet. The rescue center should cover the medical bills.

HOPE I HELPED!

It takes a day or so for the medicine to work. I would say if you still see worms in 2 days call the vet

Question by Timothy S: How much should it cost to get a dog wormed and vaccinated. It seems that some vets over do it to make extra $
I just took in a homeless puppy and he needs wormed and vaccinated but my budjet is tight. It never seemed to cost this much to have a dog. It used to be , you took them to the vet and they womed them and, vaccinated them in one day. now they want to do alot more, and they want you to come back for more visits. These things I never needed to do before and all my dogs lived long healthy , happy lives.

Depends on where you live, and the area the vet is in. There can be a huge difference in vet prices in the same city.

You should be using dewormer under the guidance of your vet. Ask him/her, who knows your dogs health history and who can do an exam to determine if it is necessary, rather than taking the advice of internet strangers.

Heartworm preventative is given on a monthly basis, again, under the guidance and prescription of a veterinarian.
