We scheduled and early litter exam just in case a few of the new puppy owners insisted on taking them home for Christmas. The puppies have been eating softened puppy food and drinking water for a week and a half. The exam revealed no alarming issues, so the puppies are healthy enough to go home this week. We are encouraging the new owners to leave them with us until New Years eve, when they will have received their first booster shots, been checked for internal parasites and had another examination. (or bring them by so that we can take them) If the puppies go early, we insist they provide us with confirmation of their 6 week examination. We have been bringing our pets to see Dr Barker since 1998. (He has a very fitting name, although he cares for cats as well.) He was very gracious to describe his examination of the pups with the camera rolling. Dr Barker also provided us with a detail of his notes from his exam today. He printed enough for the new puppy owners as well. Thanks very much Dr Barker and Sun Valley Animal Hospital www.sunvalleyanimalhospital.com Also, we are trying very hard to contain ourselves. We are so proud and very excited that NASCAR racing legend, Dale Jarrett, has chosen to purchase one of Mocha’s puppies for one of his daughters! www.dalejarrettfoundation.org www.dalejarrettford.com Thanks Mr Jarrett!

Question by grumpyjen28: my pups are 7 weeks and they went to the vet yesterday and they got hookworms?
i have 2 chihuahua puppies. and they are almost 7 weeks old. i just learned yesterday they have hookworms. and i am mad about it. so now i am treating the mom and pups with a dewormer from vet. i can believe the mom would have cause she goes outside and all. well anyways i was planning on selling the pups but i am not sure if i am allowed to or not. when can i sell them and how long does it take to have the pups worm free and how would i know. i have never had my dogs have hookworms or any kind. but i was told by the vet its common especially in our area with all the wild animals.
i did deworm the pups starting at 3 weeks of age but not the mom. sorry to forget to mention. and i am not a puppy mill this is her first litter. just to let you know and she is fixed. thankyou

The puppies possibly got the hookworms from the mother. They can only get into the puppies orally, via the placenta before birth, via the mothers milk, or through the skin.

If there was a risk of hookworm, the puppies should have been treated at 2 – 3 weeks of age, but they will need treating again in 2 – 4 weeks anyway as some larvae may not have hatched and any treatment you are now giving them, will only kill the adult hookworm.

You will need to treat the mother too. I believe one hookworm can produce something like 20000 eggs in one day.

Sometimes a blood tranfusion is necessary as the hookworm will feed off the blood of the dog.

Once they are fully recovered and you have the all clear from the vet, which may be in 6 weeks or so, there is no reason why the puppies cannot go to a new home.

This is another video for my wolfdog series where I take questions and share some answers, etc. The first video was of my hybrid wolfdog at 14 weeks and now, 7 months! I have a few more videos I plan on creating. I kind of like it because it documents my wolves growth and gives me something to look back on and to be all sappy when I think to myself “aw… I remember when Gambit was that little..” If you guys got question, please send them in? Comments are appreciated. I’m not going to tell you to subscribe because some of my other videos are goofy satire and can be offensive. But if you like this video then give it a good rating so that others may find it and get something out of it. IMPORTANT: Remember to give your animals their monthly heart-worms prevention medicine and of course, your dog should have had its parvo shots by 3-4 months of age!! Heart-worm is transmitted by mosquitos and if you live in the Southern states then you should know that it’s a merely a question of ‘when’ no ‘if’. The prevention medication is only a few dollars a month! The same is true for your parvo shots. Easily obtained and administered. But still, SO many animals are neglected and both, the animal and the owner, suffer the consequence :( take care!

RIDDLE: Detective Leong was involved in a murder investigation. In the suspect’s house, the only thing he found useful was a password protected computer and a piece of paper nailed to the wall. He suspected that the paper was the answer to accessing the computer, but could not figure out what the password is. Written on the paper was “ShE IS ILL”. Do you know what the password is? HINT: There is no spelling mistake. You might want to write it on a piece of paper. The correct answer: riddlenow.com This RIDDLE is a cortesy from CoolRiddles Youtube Channel: www.youtube.com
