Question by cows_the_word: Can using heartguard cure stage 1 heartworms in dogs?
My dachshund has stage 1 (early sign) or heartworms. The vet tech told me I could continue her on Heartguard and eventually it could die off and go away or pay around $ 700 to have the full treatment plus 2 months of “quiet time”.

I am scared to do the “heartguard” path for fear it won’t treat it. Anybody had any good or bad luck from it? Anyone know an average price I can expect for the full treatment (shots, overnight stays, meds, etc)?

Wow…quite scary for such a little dog. I would see your vet and get his/her honest opinion on whether or not to continue heartguard, or go straight to treatment. So very sorry to hear it. How did your baby get heartworms. Was she on heartguard and still got it? Well I hope she gets better!!

Believe it or not, none of us can diagnose your dog through the internet. Get your butt to the vet.

I’m no dog expert, but I would imagine you start using the tick medicine, well, when you see ticks.
