How do I know what kind of worm it is? I had over the counter wormer in my house but it said it was for roundworms and hookworms. The tapeworm is described as being seen in small dried pieces. This doesn’t look like roundworm as she has had that before but there aren’t any tiny/small pieces like described in tapeworm. Only long ones. Help?

Take the dog to the vet, or at least bring in a stool sample, so that they can check to see what kind of worms they are.

Since you “think” there may be a problem, take your dog to the vet. It’s hard to put your dog blood/ stool under a Yahoo microscope.

Question by hott_kiss911: HELP! I think my dog has ringworm or lyme disease maybe? PICTURE LINK!?
I was rubbing my dogs belly today and noticed a bunch of circular red spots with small dark dots in the middle. I live in the woods and at one point found a tick on him that I pulled out (Yes I got the head) but then when I called the vet to set up his appointment for today to get it looked at they said it might be ringworm (his last wormer was beginning of last month so he is due for another). He’s a 2 year old dachshund. Our roommates dog had worms but never had red spots or anything so I don’t think if it is worms its the same kind.

Question by andrea z: I think my dog has ringworm?
I’m taking her to the vet Friday for a skin scraping. I was wondering if there is anything I can do in the meantime. I have other dogs and so far they haven’t been affected.

You can apply any athlete’s foot ointment (lamisil for example, or even monistat cream; both are designed to kill fungus, which is what the ringworm is) and get a head start on it; will help if it is ringworm and won’t hurt if it’s not.
