Question by Jennifer: how long after treatment will my dog be free of hookworms? and how soon can i retreat her?
We rescued a 2 yr old Chihuahua a couple of days ago and were told she was completely healthy and housebroken, however we discovered ear mites, hookworms and fleas within the 1st 24 hrs of getting her, also come to find out she is NOT housebroken. This is very scary for us as we have a 1 year old toddler/crawler and a 5 yr old min pin in the house along with a 6yr old and a 9 yr old. we’ve treated her with an oral liquid for the worms, cleaned up after her poopies completely and thoroughly. We keep her in the downstairs for now. After treatment we saw about 10 or so dead worms on her doggie bed for 2 nights in a row (GROSS). My question is how long will she have dead worms crawling out of her butt and how soon can we treat her again to make sure we clear them out?

Did you get the dewormer from your vet? We usually give medication for about 3-5 days and it’s usually gone. OTC meds will not work and can be dangerous for your dog. Be sure to get the dog on Frontline and Heargaurd once it’s gone so you don’t need to worry about again!

Question by sindy: how old does puppies need to be before you worm them and how soon do you worm the mama dog after birth?
i have a litter of puppies and i dont know much about them but i want to find homes for them i think they are maybe for weeks old and the mama is getting kinda thin so i need to know when to worm mama and her litter and wean the puppies
i didnt breed this dog it was a stay and it my home its home so i am just trying to help it i didnt when she had them because she had them under the shed in the backyard

Puppies will be weaned by 7 weeks old, but shouldn’t be re-homed until a minimum of 8 weeks old.

Momma dog can be dewormed at any time. The puppies should be dewormed for roundworms and hookworms starting at 2 weeks of age and be repeated at 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age.

Make sure Momma dog is getting extra nutrients (being fed ”puppy” food at this time).

I hate answering questions if I’m not sure about the answer but I breed horses and goats and I worm them the next day after foaling

My dog is going to be tested for heart worm’s next sunday and I’m worried that if he is tested positive then my mom wont be able to pay for the treatment’s, since she can barely pay her bill’s! If he is tested positive should we put him down? and if he is not positive how much will the med’s be each month. (My mom would be able to pay the med’s every month but not the treatment if he has heart worm’s). I know i should not be worrying right now but i care about my dog! If he does have heart worm’s i’ll try very hard to get my mom to help him. i will also would do my best to save up some money. (DONT BRING UP NONE OF THAT B.S OF HOW I’M HEARTLESS, CAUSE I’M ONLY KID! I CAN’T DO MUCH BUT BEG AND CRY) P.s. my dog is 2 year’s old. ( but i’m sure my mom would pay for the treatment if he is positive, i’m just really worried!
