should I be able to see hookworms?

Question by sylver890: should I be able to see hookworms?
I gave my dog Panacur once a day for 3 consecutive days, repeated the procedure after 3 weeks again. The vet told me that I would be able to see the hookworms in his feces after couple of days, however I did not see anything, so I was wondering if anyone has had similar experience? is it possible that the hookworms are gone even though I didn’t see them when I was picking up after my dog?
I know that he had hookworms because his vet told me so, however I had never seen them myself.

1. How often should a dog be dewormed? (5-mos old dog)
2. When will i see the result of the medicine (change in his stool)?
3. Can you suggest any home remedies for my dog’s fast recovery? (blood in stools due to hookworm)

You don’t do ‘home remedies’ for hookworms – you take the pup back to the vet and have it wormed and then take it back in two weeks and have it wormed again. You have to be pretty fastidious in cleaning up after your dog as he is shedding hookworm and they are horribly difficult to get rid of in the environment, at least down here in the south where long freezes don’t occur. You vet should be able to answer these questions – that is what you pay for so taking advice from people you don’t have a clue about on the internet is sort of foolish. Yes, you should be alarmed as either or both can lead to death.

Question by k_zell: Should I introduce my dog to the rescue dog before he goes to the vet?
Getting a rescue dog tomorrow that has been extremely negected. And was wondering if I should introduce him to my other dog tomorrow or wait until the new dog sees a vet. Are there diseases or parasites that a dog can transfer to another? Don’t want my old dog to get sick from the rescue dog, if that is possible. Thanks.

Is your current dog up to date with vaccinations (it should be)?

I’m assuming you are getting your rescue dog from a centre. They should have made sure he is fit enough to go to a new home and is vaccinated, so you ought to be OK.

Q&A: My dog got ringworm from my cat what should i do?

Question by SLH12095: My dog got ringworm from my cat what should i do?
My outside cat had ringworm, and now i think my chocolate cocker spaniel has it. About a week ago he lost his hair on his neck and it was in a ring so me and my mom just thought it was ringworm. Today my mom looked at it and not only is it just in one spot but there is another spot underneath it, and the first spot is bumped up and bloody, it also has puss around it too. So now I don’t know if it’s ringworm or some kind of tumor…. me and my mom are really scared. If you do have an idea tell me a web site so i can read about it or see pictures.

Answer by Vet Tech
Get your outdoor cat on Revolution and get your dog to the vet for a proper diagnosis and treatment!

Good luck!!
