Question by Marcjc: My dog may have ringworm – taking her to the vet tomorrow. How can I treat areas in my house in the meantime?
I think it’s ringworm – no clue where she got it, but she’s going to the vet tomorrow for a diagnosis and treatment. I am wondering what I should do to treat areas in my home if it is ringworm. She does sleep on wall to wall carpeting and she’s allowed on my sofa (fabric). I will wash her bed in hot water and bleach, but wondering how to treat the carpet and sofa.

If you’ve had a pet with ringworm, what did the lesions look like? Were they really scabby/scaly? Did your pet itch? Where were the lesions? All of my dog’s are on her back and she doesn’t seem bothered by them at all.

Thanks!!

Question by Cherry: working in a kennel, how can i stop myself catching ringworm from the animals?
I work weekends at a dog/cat boarding kennel, which means i am constantly in contact with a circulating bunch of ALOT of dogs & cats.

I am very paranoid, almost obsessive-compulsive, when it comes to contagious things such as ringworm & mange & other hideous little bugs that can be passed to humans…& there are a number of animals at the kennel that have hairless patches on their skin & other nasty looking little skin disorders [my boss just calls it "dermatitis" which could be what the owners have told them it is, & some dogs have medications for dermatological disorders....]

I HATE IT! I mean, I wash my hands alot while I am working there, but is there any other way that I can reduce my chances of getting ringworm from these animals [cats can even carry it without showing symptoms]. I am freaked out…it makes me itchy just thinking about it! it is not practical to wear gloves while working there.

Wear latex gloves and long sleeve shirts and pants to reduce your risk of exposure. It may not be practical but either is getting sick. lol

Ringworm sore on dog? Is it still contagious?

Question by :) : Ringworm sore on dog? Is it still contagious?
My sister just got a puppy yesterday and today when we were playing with him, we noticed a little blister on him. Her husband, who was the one who actually bought him, said that the lady who sold the dog to him said that it was treated and is just healing. We all touched him, including my one year old nephew and I’m just worried that we could get it because there is very clearly still the sore from the ring worm even though my brother in law swears we can’t. They’re going to the vet Monday but I was just wondering if it were possible to still have the sore but not be contagious?
Well, the breeder said that it wasn’t contagious and I guess he thought that she would know, but me being a skeptic and all, i think she was just trying to make a sale. Looks like that might be the case. :(
question to hudsongray? I describe it as a blister but it’s just the ringworm sore. Looking at the pics online, it’s definitely ringworm. there seem to be hairs on it, it’s hard to see unless you brush away the fur. We only found it by touching him. Does this mean that it’s healed?

No its contagious until it is gone.

Edit: As long as you wash your hands after you touch the dog you should be fine.

Question by barrettjuanita: My large chow has ringworm what effective treatments are available to quickly remedy this problem?
My chow that is 10 years old recently had precancerous tumors removed at the humane society hospital. Shortly afterwards his hair started falling out and rings in his skin developed. The vets say he didn’t get it there (I question this) and that he probably had the problem for years before the actual eruptions occoured. Since then we have spent a fortune on different medicines, shampoos, etc. We have even began using Lamisil AT. He also has chronic ear infections and eye infections. It is bad enough that he has all these problems but now with the ringworm I am afraid that my other two dogs and two cats may also contract the disease. Years ago I treated my cat with pharmaldihide (a treatment I got from a turn of the century medical book) and just like the book said it treated the ringworm with the first application. However the area on my dog is too great to treat this way. Years ago my dad treated a dog with mange with used motor oil and that worked then but isn’t practical now.

you should talk to your vet, he can always recommend the best possible treatment, treating a dpg wotj romgwpr, requires extra caution as the disease can be spread to the humans.

Ringworm possibly infected?

Question by hvtitans83: Ringworm possibly infected?
I don’t have insurance so I’m trying to get as much help online as possible for this. I’m pretty sure I had ringworm from my dog

I’ve been putting antifungal cream on it twice a day for a few days and it stopped itching and looks a lot better. Yesterday though I noticed a few yellow pimply looking spots on my leg where the rash is still healing. They are very tender and cause a sharp pain in my leg anytime they are touched, at times it is too painful for me to walk on it.

I’ve washed it with soap in the shower everyday and these spots didn’t appear until I started using the anti fungal, but like I said the anti Fungal seemed to help my rash this is just a whole new feeling in my leg, it’s all pain no itch.

It does appear that you have a ringworm, and that you have some of the fungi going down the hair shafts, which is giving you the pus pockets. Although it’s possible that the over the counter antifungal medicine might clear u up, it’s also possible that you’re going to need oral medicine in order to get the medicine down into the tissue, rather than just on top.
