Is this what animal rescue is all about?

Question by Launi~ Thundering ~ Wild Angels~: Is this what animal rescue is all about?
Received a call from a friend. His friend lives in a neighborhood where a foreclosed house has been ‘vacant’ for over 4 months.

There was a mixed breed dog chained outside. The neighbors fed, unchained her and put her in the small, fenced in ‘pen’. She was
full of fleas, so dirty it was disgusting, has heartworms and hookworms.

The dog has now been properly vetted, set up for heartworm treatment and is in a glorious home.

Problem is, there were 2 more animals inside.

All of this time the neighbors had called the SPCA and Animal Control.
The SPCA said there was nothing they could do if they could not get inside the house.

After making numerous phones calls I found out there were ‘tenants’ renting the house but were told to vacate by the owners months ago.

The tenants were going in at night through a door which was not locked.

They were apparently leaving some food and water because after 4 months the animals would have been dead.

When I finally reached the owners of the house they were shocked. They had no idea what was going on.

The owners met my husband and me at the house. The cat was inside and the little Pom was in the garage.

The cat and dog are completely dehydrated and emaciated. The house was full of cat feces and urine, the garage was covered with feces but no urine we could detect.

No food or water in sight for either animal.

The Pom and the cat are at my vet and will be evaluated. I will go from there.

They are out of hell.

So, I ask once again. Is this what rescue is all about?
Micki: I am a supporter and a foster home for my local SPCA. I also give generously. I am VERY well informed about what they can and cannot do. THAT is the reason I stepped in. Am I bragging? Seeing myself as a ‘hero’?
No. If you or anyone else thinks I am then I can just chalk it up to not knowing me. I know too many other people that do much more than I have and those people make me feel humbled.
Ms Manners and DeeDawg: You both know exactly what I am saying.
The beautiful Lab mix that was chained in the backyard has now been named Brandi Joy. The new owner just sent me pictures. My heart overflows.
There are times when ‘people’ have to step in and use all the resources they can to aid our under-staffed, over populated shelters.
Mccally: Oh, I have something for them also. I WISH I could have 5 minutes!!
UPDATE: Heard from my vet. The Pom is very young, probably under a year. Bloodwork came back excellent, no heartworms. Very friendly! They are keeping him until they can get him to a good weight and healthy.

The cat is also fine except she is in heat.
Once that is over she will be spayed. Got the word out now on both for homes.

Question by k_zell: Should I introduce my dog to the rescue dog before he goes to the vet?
Getting a rescue dog tomorrow that has been extremely negected. And was wondering if I should introduce him to my other dog tomorrow or wait until the new dog sees a vet. Are there diseases or parasites that a dog can transfer to another? Don’t want my old dog to get sick from the rescue dog, if that is possible. Thanks.

Is your current dog up to date with vaccinations (it should be)?

I’m assuming you are getting your rescue dog from a centre. They should have made sure he is fit enough to go to a new home and is vaccinated, so you ought to be OK.

My Rescue Dog

After receiving his first bath ever, losing all of his fleas, worms and parasites, the little bag of bones (some of them broken) I found on the side of the road during my morning run looks happy at the Paradise Island Animal Hospital just after lunch. Looks how the little orphan puppies love this guy! After shelling out for all of his medical bills, I brought him home to meet Meatball. Keep an eye out for those videos in the near future. Sorry about the quality. I shot this with my phone before I knew how to work the settings.

Chihuahua Rescue in Stephenville, Texas

Doug and Doogle are still up for adoption as of the date of this posting. They are still showing every bone in their tiny bodies, but have a good appetite. Doug and Doogle most likely have spent all their lives in a small cage. Doogle has deformities on his hind legs that are typical to this kind of confinement. Both dogs were covered in parasites and anemic as a result. The dehydration and emaciation brought them to the brink of death. Somebody had a heart and threw them over the fence of the local Humane Society. I foster them at the moment and am looking for a suitable home for those babies. They do NOT need somebody who pampers them and puts them into a pink purse! They need somebody who addresses and takes the dog in them serious, not the scared human baby looking eyes. They deserve to be a dog, not a human! Go to petfinder.com and look up Chihuahua Rescue, Doug and Doogle in Texas and you should find their ad.

Report 1 It all began as an ordinary day in September… an ordinary day in Spanish Village. A village controlled by Osmund Saddler’s cult is known as Los Illuminados. No one dared to oppose them, and that lack of strength would ultimately lead to their destruction. I suppose they had to suffer the consequences of their actions, but their would be no forgiveness. If only they had had the courage to fight! Los Illuminados resurrected some sort of parasitic organism they call Las Plagas. That’s all my castellans knows for sure. My family, castellans for generations, possess the ability to control Las Plagas. My hypothesis is that a unique frequency of sonic wave sensed only by the parasites is used to control them. The same principle used in dog whistles. Its true that once the wheels of justice begin to turn nothing can stop them, nothing. It was Spanish Villages last chance, and my last chance. My last escape. Report 2 Pleasant surprise! But I’m afraid it’s Ashley we need… She was kidnapped by Jack Krauser while on her way home from her university. Only a handful of people know about this kidnapping. She was supposed to stay in the church, but due to American Agent’s investigation… we lost her… Mister Kennedy, the one who’s our spike in the eye. He came to the Village and saved her. Mendez tried to stop him, but… he failed… Now my castelans are trying to get her back. We set a trap near sewers, where Leon would have to encounter our Novistadors. If the mission
