Question by lnacantu: What causes tapeworms in puppies?
Do dogs get tapeworms from eating their fleas?
I have gotten a treatment from my local vet for my puppies tapeworms. I also attempted to disinfect my home in case there may be any eggs laying around. I have also had my puppy groomed and his butt shaved clean, as he is a long haired dog. I’m just worried that there may be a reinfestation even though he’s been treated. Is this likely to happen?

Answer by cari-marie of course I don’t know if it is true…and I would like to find the REAL answer to the problem of aquiring them as well…but I was told growing up that your pup can get them from eating food off the ground (may be an old wives tail) but I’d like it if anyone could say if their is any truth to it?
Question by Vincent P: What is the treatment for the “pot bellies” that develops in puppies infected with hookworms after dewoming.
I picked up golden retrievers infected with hookworms, They are weak, look abnormal and have “pot bellies.” my goal is to get these dogs better and get them in shape for adoption. I had them dewormed and got them shots but I think that they may have a skeletal abnormality at the hips and severe abdominal swelling. Do they need antibiotics?
Best answer:
Answer by iluvmyfrenchbulldogs They may need to be de-wormed again. Pot-bellies are often signs of parasites. I would call a vet, many will do services pro-bono for rescued animals that you are trying to rehabilitate and find new homes.
Olivia, the starved Great Dane has recovered from her heartworm treatment and is now free of those nasty parasites. She will be spayed in a week or 2 and then she can start living life as she deserves it! Honey, the Lab, has been spayed now and is having a blast. The Border Collie Puppies are 6 weeks old now. Question by livelaughdream: Can tapeworms be treated in pregnant dogs with out harming her unborn puppies?
My dog is pregnant and she has tapeworms. She is due in March is there a way to get rid of the worms without harming her or the puppies?
When I asked the vet he said that there is not a safe solution and that we would have to wait untill after the puppies are born. Howevere, that would be another month and then isn’t there a possiblity I could catch them?

Answer by Blanca G im not so sure but i think you should wait till the puppies are born
We scheduled and early litter exam just in case a few of the new puppy owners insisted on taking them home for Christmas. The puppies have been eating softened puppy food and drinking water for a week and a half. The exam revealed no alarming issues, so the puppies are healthy enough to go home this week. We are encouraging the new owners to leave them with us until New Years eve, when they will have received their first booster shots, been checked for internal parasites and had another examination. (or bring them by so that we can take them) If the puppies go early, we insist they provide us with confirmation of their 6 week examination. We have been bringing our pets to see Dr Barker since 1998. (He has a very fitting name, although he cares for cats as well.) He was very gracious to describe his examination of the pups with the camera rolling. Dr Barker also provided us with a detail of his notes from his exam today. He printed enough for the new puppy owners as well. Thanks very much Dr Barker and Sun Valley Animal Hospital www.sunvalleyanimalhospital.com Also, we are trying very hard to contain ourselves. We are so proud and very excited that NASCAR racing legend, Dale Jarrett, has chosen to purchase one of Mocha’s puppies for one of his daughters! www.dalejarrettfoundation.org www.dalejarrettford.com Thanks Mr Jarrett!
