Question by Kel Kel: Can I use one type of heart worm medicine on my dog one month and another type the next month?
We used revolution on my dog this month but want to switch to interceptor starting next month when her next dose is due. Is it safe to switch meds like that?
Thank you. I will talk to my vet first but was just curious in the mean time.

I don’t think it should be a problem. Maybe check and see what each medication contains just to make sure they are similar and not risk your dog having an allergic reaction to the new product. Hope this helps.

I’m no dog expert, but I would imagine you start using the tick medicine, well, when you see ticks.

Question by stephan s: what age can you give a dog tape worm medicine?
my dogs is 6 months old and i want to be safe along with preventative also.

Best answer:

Answer by tutock
First, yes it’s old enough. does your dog show any signs of tapeworms or any other type of worm or parasite? has it recently been infested with fleas? if you answer no to both questions, then don’t give to your dog as it causes the dog to have an upset stomach and is unnecessary. Signs of tapeworms- small white or yellowish things that resemble grains of rice around the dogs anus (butthole) and/or in their bedding. these are not the worms itself, but egg sacks…. sorry, i’m typing with one hand as i have burnt 3 of my fingers on the other hand.

Question by ashley m: How long will a dog “pass worms” after you give him worm medicine?
I have a 5 week old dachshund and he has worms. I gave him worm medicine about 6 hrs. ago and he has passed several worms. He hasn’t passed any in 3 hrs and I want to know how long it takes until they are gone.

Best answer:

Answer by Polar Bear
It can take several treatments for all the worms to pass. Most vets give them over a three week period. There are some treatments that are very strong and are given in a single pack or pill. As far as the worm,s themselves I usually find the major part of them pass in the first few bowel movement,s, which can be very nasty.
So it is not strange to see a stray one pass a week or two later.
I think the instructions should tell you that the extra treatments are just to make sure that the animal dose not have a reassurance of the problem’s. Hope this helps.
