Question by goldeeloxxz: Does anyone know of medication that can safely kill heartworms in a dog?
I recently rescued a dog that was neglected & abused. We took him to the vet & he was diagnosed with heartworms & other problems. I have treated him for everything but he has the existing worms & treatment I’m told is dangerous and very expensive. I am hoping someone has info & a remedy or meds I can order online that are safe & effective. My family has taken in several unwanted dogs & try to provide a good home where they won’t be abused anymore & we would appreciate input on alternative treatments than what our vets here have to offer. They suggested two injections over a couple of days with observation as he could possibly die when the worms dislodge & try to pass like an emboli causing a stroke. I have heard of a product called HWF (heartworm free) but I don’t know how effective it really is or safe? Please help.
Thanks in advance.

You MUST get the meds from the vet as if you do go with anything else to prevent HWorms you will kill the dog! PLEASE, I know it may be costly, but you must do this properly otherwise you should have the dog put down.
Thanks for taking care of the four legged ones!

Question by Chargers Chick: Is monthly heartworm medication for dogs really necessary?
I have 2 large dogs and every month I give them the heartworm stuff but because they’re so big it’s pretty expensive. They’re indoors 80% of the time by their choice, I think that’s typical of Great Danes though, I think that might be why they’re sometimes called Castle Dogs But anyways so because they’re indoors so much whats the chance that they’d really get heartworms? How do dogs get heartworms? Am I wasting my money? I want to keep my dogs healthy but I don’t want to buy the heartworm meds if its highly unlikely that they’d get heartworms anyways. What do you guys think? Thank you in advance for your answers.

Dogs get heart worms from mosquitoes. Mosquitoes can very easily get in your house. And it only takes a few seconds for the mosquito to bite your dog when it does go outside. Yes heart worm medicine is necessary and worth the money.

Question by angelfire343: My Dog has Tapeworms, Can I purchase over the counter medication?
My dog has been infected with what I believe are tapeworms.
They’re small rice like worms in his stool and he’s constantly rubbing his butt on the ground. I called the vet but he is unavailable until oct1st. Can I purchase over the counter medication, and is it as effective as the vet?

You can buy dewormer, but you need to be sure that is what is wrong with him. What if it’s something else? It’s not a bad idea to deworm anyway.

Question by Horse Lover: Do any of you treat tapeworms in dogs with horse medication?
If so, how what medicine do you use and how much would you give a 20 pound dog? My friend used some on her dog and her dog got sick and had to go to the vet. She claims she uses it all the time on her dogs.
Thanks
Ok people. It is not my dog.My dog goes to the vet for everything. It is my friend who gave her dog the medicine. I have just never heard of anyone doing this but she said it is done all the time by people that have horses and dogs both. So I thought I’d ask.

Question by curious: can dewormer or medication for nausea cause constipation in dogs?
My newly adopted dog just started dewormer for hookworms yesterday at 6:30 and has not pooped since. She is also on medication for nausea. Do either one or both cause constipation? She has not even tried to potty. I have taken her out several times, she just sniffs around for a while and then is ready to go back inside.

does she eat? well its possible that it may be constipation, but it could be the medication. the medication might have side effects which may cause this problem!
