he is like in bad humor and latelly is week to. the other one, a pointer, seems fine. they live together .

Question by MarieLR: Question about tapeworms in dogs. Found rice like moving particles on my dogs tail last night.?
I know it is tapeworms. She is 5 months old and I called my vet and she is going in for a treatment at 5:15 today. My question is what must I do to my home. I already vacummed the house and sofas, washed all the sheets and covers (she is a cuddle bug) and mopped the floor. Is there any other steps I should take when I get home to protect my family and my dog from reinfestation? I do realize I may be overdoing this, but those little moving particles of rice grossed me out. Also, please tell me what the vet will give my puppy.
I adopted her from a Humane Society on Feb. 4th. I have NEVER given her raw food. She has only ever eaten high quality dry puppy food in my home, in addition to dog biscuits for training purposes.

Pick up all the dog poo in the yard – the egg sacks (the rice-like segments you are seeing) lay dormant in the poo and get “reingested” by other animals eating grass…and the tapes are passed to them who also poo in the yard and your puppy or kids run through the mess, get some on there hands..feet and the lifecycle continues. Also – dogs get tapeworms from ingesting fleas – you need to treat your home/yard for fleas as well. Unless you have a rabid infestation of fleas in your home you should be pretty safe – it sounds like you have done a good job cleaning up. Make sure you are using bleach and hot water to clean. And make sure your kids are washing their hands after every time they play with the puppy. Also don’t let the puppy lick them on the mouth.

Your vet will give your puppy a little pill called Drontal or Droncit and send you home with another tablet to give him in 3 weeks – that should clear it up.

my dog has tapeworms we know it for sure anyway they are like pieces of rice and then just recently my dog pood in a room and then he sleeps in there also now how long will they last outside of his body? and do you have any suggestions on how to clean them up off my ground floor

Question by LIZ: Can I give my dog her worm shield a few days before i did last month?
I gave it to her on the 15 last month but wont be her on the 15 this month can i give it to her today since its the 13.?

Is someone going to be watching her for you while you’re away? You could always have them give it to her.

Otherwise, 2 days (early) shouldn’t make much of a difference. Just make sure that after this month, you give it to her on the 13th from now on.
