How do I know what kind of worm it is? I had over the counter wormer in my house but it said it was for roundworms and hookworms. The tapeworm is described as being seen in small dried pieces. This doesn’t look like roundworm as she has had that before but there aren’t any tiny/small pieces like described in tapeworm. Only long ones. Help?

Take the dog to the vet, or at least bring in a stool sample, so that they can check to see what kind of worms they are.

Question by goldeeloxxz: Does anyone know of medication that can safely kill heartworms in a dog?
I recently rescued a dog that was neglected & abused. We took him to the vet & he was diagnosed with heartworms & other problems. I have treated him for everything but he has the existing worms & treatment I’m told is dangerous and very expensive. I am hoping someone has info & a remedy or meds I can order online that are safe & effective. My family has taken in several unwanted dogs & try to provide a good home where they won’t be abused anymore & we would appreciate input on alternative treatments than what our vets here have to offer. They suggested two injections over a couple of days with observation as he could possibly die when the worms dislodge & try to pass like an emboli causing a stroke. I have heard of a product called HWF (heartworm free) but I don’t know how effective it really is or safe? Please help.
Thanks in advance.

You MUST get the meds from the vet as if you do go with anything else to prevent HWorms you will kill the dog! PLEASE, I know it may be costly, but you must do this properly otherwise you should have the dog put down.
Thanks for taking care of the four legged ones!

Question by iujess84: My dog has 2 nickel-sized red circles with a dot in the middle on her stomach. Does anyone know what this is?
It looks as if someone took a car cigarrette lighter and burned two perfect circles on her stomach, only each circle has a red dot in the middle. I’ve been researching and I’m really confused. I think it might be ringworm but I’ve worked as a vet tech for a couple of years and ringworm in dogs usually are circular bald patches of hair, in humans it looks more like what my dog has right now (red circles). Lyme disease is not prevalent in my area (South Bend, Indiana), or at least thats what I’ve been told. I worked for a vet that never vaccinated for Lymes disease unless the dog was a completely outdoors in the woods kind of dog because she said its not really an issue here. My girl is a little Boston terrier and we definitely go to the park and on long walks, but she’s not outdoors most of the time or anything. I’ve just never seen something like this before. They are perfect outlines of circles. My other dog, an English Bulldog, had a really bad allergic reaction to something biting her a few days ago and her face swelled up and she got hives and I took her to the vet and she got a shot and some meds and now she is better. Is it possible for the same thing to have bitten this dog and she is having a different reaction to it? Also, I took all the dogs for a walk about a week ago down the East Race and they went swimming in the St. Joseph River, which a lot of people say is not the cleanest of rivers. Could that have anything to do with this?
How do I load a picture? I only have a cell phone to take a picture so it’s not the best quality but I have a picture.
I think I figured out how to put a picture on here.
