Harrison was taken in by DAWG just a few months beforehand. We knew Harrison had heartworms, a common condition in many shelter dogs. We figured he would make it through the treatment and be the delight of a future adopter, and in the meantime, we would enjoy having him with us. What a fantastic dog! He was hilarious and had a blast at the few adoption shows he went to before treatment started. Sadly, after Harrison started heartworm treatment, he began struggling for breath. We rigged a large aquarium with oxygen to create a home oxygen unit, enabling to Harrison to breath easier. (Thank you to PETCO for donating the aquarium.) Question by Herro 222: forgot to give my dog his heart worm preventative (heartgard) for this month?
it’s been a little more than a week late since i was suppose to give him his heart worm preventative (heartgard) . all the other times, i give him on the right days. can i give him his heart worm preventative anytime or should i just wait till next month?

Give it now and give it again on your regular schedule. Will NOT hurt the dog.

Add: I am a ‘prevenative maintenance’ person. I give HW treatment all year around. Yes, I live in a tropical state. The minor cost of this far outweighs the results of an infestation of heartworms. I do not care where I lived, I would not take the chance. Freezing cold or not. This is strictly my opinion.
