I just recently got a 10 week yellow lab on 2/4/09 and we had him for a week now. I just had his 2nd shots on 2/5/09, then de-wormed him on 2/7/09. Also, the breeder was 2 weeks late on his second set of shots.
Last night he started to have 100% diarrhea, then it transferred into 90% mucus and 10% wet solid stool. Today he is starting to vomit yellow fluids, and his fecal matter is back to normal, but still slightly wet. He is not lethargic as he still plays with his toys and us. I cut out his old food(Puppy Chow-Vet recommended it) and I am now giving him rice/chicken till his stool becomes regular. In addition, my girlfriend and I are giving him Pedialyte every 20 mins. I am bringing him to the vet tomorrow, and we are just taking all precautionary methods just in case for the worst news. We’re first time dog owners and we are slightly inexperienced with this stuff. My concern is that he is developing a new symptom everyday and none of them seem to simultaneously. Lastly, he has a fever that seems to leave and come back….
Any suggestions or personal experiences or help of any kind would be greatly and deeply appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Just got the dog Saturday he had 2 sets of shots was due for last in 3 weeks. He was very alert and active but barely ate or drank much Saturday or Sunday, which we thought was because he came frome a breeder down South to us up North (this was a long plane ride for an 11 week old puppy). On Monday he was really tired and had 2 loose stools and I took him to the vet in the evening. I asked if the dog could possibly have had parvo and he said no probably just worms. He tried a rectal stool test but not enough to run the test. Tuesday puppy still lethargic and had gel-like stool, took sample to vet came back parvo. Immediately took puppy to hospital started on iv fluids and the said could only treat the symptoms. In hospital puppy began vomiting same day (Tuesday)& extremely lethargic. Wednesday white cell count dropping and albumin level low. Puppy had a transfusion Wed evening and looked a little better. They kept trying to feed puppy even though he would vomit and still had loose stools. Thursday morning puppy seemed better-kept some food down. I asked vet about Tamiflu and she said we could try but not enough studies to support its use. By afternoon puppy took a turn for worse, having bloody stool and white blood cell count bottoming out. I asked about Neupogen she again said not enough studies to prove effectiveness. Puppy so weak he was lying in his own bloody poo which everyone knows a dog won’t do. He was suffering so much so we had him put to sleep. Of course now I am still questioning did we do everything right? Does anyone know of something we overlooked? I think I brought up some things to these 2 vets they weren’t looking at but I am at such an emotional loss right now. Not like it matters but between the vet visit, testing and the slightly over 2 days hospitalization and euthanization this has been approx. $4000 out of pocket. We became so attatched to him after only having him in our house for 3 days (I’m crying as I write this). Again, could anything else have been done? I want to be armed with info if I or anyone has to go through this…THANKS!

almost 2 weeks ago a lab puppy was dumped at the store where i work. he’s been wormed and had his first shots, and is gaining weight.
but i think he may have heartworm.
i’ve never had a dog with heartworm, but i believe at least one symptom is coughing. which Monroe does constantly.
can someone please tell me the symptoms?
and treatment?
in the past, i’ve always understood it would be a lifetime of meds. but things have changed.
what about surgery?

My friend in the apartment’s I live in told me this puppy wouldn’t leave her doorstep and once I saw it I fell in love and took it home with me. The problem? The puppy looked like he was fat, but instead we realized he was bloated. He’s had diarrhea since he’s been here, the last two day’s. He’s got worm’s, but not to the extreme and he won’t eat like he did the first day we got him. He seem’s to have all of the symptoms. I’m sad, because if he dies he will have been the 3rd puppy we’ve had to die from Parvo, in the past year. If he has Parvo what can you recommend? I don’t want him to die, but I’ve done some research and it seem’s it’s not curable. I cannot afford a vet, especially right now. And another quick question…..Why do people take puppies/dogs to Wal-Mart and give them away knowing they are sick with this disease or worm’s? That’s sad, because I have children, that don’t know yet, but will eventually. Help?

okay im here visiting my cousin’s house and their dog has heartworms. since today, everytime i’ve touched him i wash my hands really good. earlier i put him in his cage and fell asleep in front of the tv and i woke up to find the dog all over my arm. i have no idea how he got out. so i put him back in the cage and i sat down and my stomach started to feel funny like i had ate some bad food or something(I had a sprite before i fell asleep). And then i sware i thought i could feel something in my throat and when i swallowed it wouldn’t really go down. im also aware that worms can be spread through mosquitoes and i have recently gotten a mosquito bite on my face… i don’t really know the symptoms or anything, maybe im just goin crazy. but can someone please tell me if this sounds like i may have caught some kind of worm?
