Happy Serafina working for treats

Serafina serafinaballerina.blogspot.com and Doreen httphave been in foster care with Illinois Birddog Rescue-illinoisbirddogrescue.org for about 2 years now. They were rescued off of a mountain in Arkansas where they had been living in squalor. When they first came in they were both in need of major vetting and TLC from their years of neglect, poor living conditions and over breeding. They didn’t know what love was- but now they do!! Serafina is the most animated of the pair and has a ton of personality. Doreen will always be quiet and laid back in the home; she certainly deserves to feel safe after all she went through before she came into rescue. Gilligan http was rescued from a shelter in Southern Illinois. He had suffered a lot of neglect and malnutrition and we weren’t sure if he was going to make it. Not only was he loaded with intestinal parasites, but he also had a severe case of heartworm disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and probably also survived Parvo. Gilli definitely showed some brain damage from all he went through- but now he is healthy and is sweet as they come. Follow up chiropractic appointments have helped with his brain function and as he is food motivated, he should be a fun dog to train for someone who can overlook his handicap.

www.flickr.com This poor fella was found Wed. July 16, 2008 lying in a yard near the paper mill in Cantonment. He was starving, dehydrated, his distended belly was full of parasites, his gums were pale, he was weak, he has mange/ringworm, etc. He could barely walk. He was left there to DIE. How could anyone leave a puppy to starve to death in their yard? Oh yeah, I had these same folks busted in Nov. ‘06 for the SAME THING! I called Escambia County Animal Control on them for cruelty/neglect and the owner was arrested. They allowed a chained puppy with no shelter, food, or water, to starve. They had another puppy chained to a fence with no food, water, or shelter. Escambia County Animal Control came out back then and took the puppies. The emaciated one died from his condition in the shelter. The other one was euthanized after the court case. He would have been euthanized anyway since the county doesn’t adopt out pit bulls. Obviously, these folks didn’t get the message the first time. I was NOT going to give them another chance to get away with torture! I was not going to allow a repeat of those tragedies. I whisked the puppy away from that yard and took him home for medical treatment and FOOD. He’s a red nose/caramel brindle pit mix about 5 to 6 weeks old. He has such beautiful eyes. If ever a puppy deserves a GREAT home, it’s this little fella. Brief video of him here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWCeS6M3kNc UPDATE 7/22/08 *Petey* was rushed to the vet clinic this AM in
