Question by Alyssa: What happens to a dog with tapeworms?
Ok, a couple months ago my dog caught a rabbit or squirrel in the back yard and got into it. After taking her to the vet today, she was diagnosed positive with tapeworms. I was wondering, how does she expell them from her body when we give her her medication every day? And also, if the worms got very bad and multiplied alot inside of her intestine, could it be fatal?

I know my dog will get better, but i was wondering for further complecations and investigations. Thanks alot.

I don’t know if tapeworms can be fatal, but they definitely aren’t good for your dog. The dog will take an oral medication that will kill the tapeworms in her digestive tract, and she will expel the dead and dying worms when she poops.

I have a pair of dogs that I’m fostering and found tapeworms in one of their poops – the vet gave me a one-dose worming tablet (virbantel) that they took a couple of weeks ago, and they had a fecal done yesterday and are clear. They’re both fine.

Question by omgluv: What happens if your dog doesn’t get the heart worm disinfectant?
The vet told me to give the dog this dewormanizer(sp?) pill after one week of the visit. I can’t find the pill. Is it bad if the dog doesn’t get it’s pill today? The week after the visit from the doctor?

Get another pill as soon as you can. A couple of days shouldn’t hurt him without it.

Question by musiclife;p: what happens to a dog when you give him too much heart worm medicine?
my dog ate twice as much heart worm medicine than prescribed for his weight, he’s 17lbs and the meds said 26-50, so he usually gets half that but he got whole, what do i do, will he die?!?!
