Do we really need to give our dogs heartworm medicine?

Question by barbmastman: Do we really need to give our dogs heartworm medicine?
My dog barfs after taking his monthly dose of heartworm medicine. It’s like clockwork! My dog is mostly an indoor dog, does not go to kennels, and only is outside when we walk him or if he goes in the backyard for short periods of time.
