Yes, I think, if the dog leaks the baby’s face and mouth. But check with your pediatrician and vet for the specific parasites you are concerned about.

Do I Have the Hookworm from my Dogs?

Question by Animal Vet: Do I Have the Hookworm from my Dogs?
My dog has been diagnosed with hookworm which is a communicable disease that people can get too. I have a Golden Retriever and a Yorkshire Terrier. The Golden was diagnosed and we think he got it because he eats his feces and some of the feces of a dog that lived next to us before our neighbors had moved. We are not sure if the dog had the Hookworm also, but that doesn’t matter. My brother now thinks he has it and wants to know symptoms. My Yorkshire Terrier is very disobedient and he pees on the kitchen floor about four+ times per day. SOmetimes we may step in it, but we wash our feet and clean the floor with clorox bleach and Fantastik. SOmetimes we may miss a few spots and there mgiht be pee elsewhere. Contracting the hookworm virus is usually caused by stepping in waste so I was wondering if you could help us out and give us some symptoms of the Hookworm Parasitic Disease. Many thanks, I would greatly appreciate all answers.

Roger feeding his foster dogs :)

Serafina serafinaballerina.blogspot.com and Doreen httphave been in foster care with Illinois Birddog Rescue-illinoisbirddogrescue.org for about 2 years now. They were rescued off of a mountain in Arkansas where they had been living in squalor. When they first came in they were both in need of major vetting and TLC from their years of neglect, poor living conditions and over breeding. They didn’t know what love was- but now they do!! Serafina is the most animated of the pair and has a ton of personality. Doreen will always be quiet and laid back in the home; she certainly deserves to feel safe after all she went through before she came into rescue. Gilligan http was rescued from a shelter in Southern Illinois. He had suffered a lot of neglect and malnutrition and we weren’t sure if he was going to make it. Not only was he loaded with intestinal parasites, but he also had a severe case of heartworm disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and probably also survived Parvo. Gilli definitely showed some brain damage from all he went through- but now he is healthy and is sweet as they come. Follow up chiropractic appointments have helped with his brain function and as he is food motivated, he should be a fun dog to train for someone who can overlook his handicap.

“Flaca”, (which means “skinny”) was brought to Lighthouse by a woman who found her on the streets. She had been abandoned, in town, by an uncaring owner. Flaca was within two or three days of death. At Lighthouse she was given antibiotics, de-wormer, vitamins, and sub-cutaneous fluids and the woman was instructed to bring her back every week for treatments for her numerous infections, mange, parasites, etc. The woman elected to do it herself at her home with homemade remedies. After about six months Flaca was brought back to Lighthouse. She had gained weight and was back on her feet. Although her health had improved, she still had a long way to go. She thrived at Lighthouse and started healing more rapidly. She is now a very cherished member of her adoptive family. They adore her. This is what rescue is all about.

Question by Horse Lover: Do any of you treat tapeworms in dogs with horse medication?
If so, how what medicine do you use and how much would you give a 20 pound dog? My friend used some on her dog and her dog got sick and had to go to the vet. She claims she uses it all the time on her dogs.

Thanks
Ok people. It is not my dog.My dog goes to the vet for everything. It is my friend who gave her dog the medicine. I have just never heard of anyone doing this but she said it is done all the time by people that have horses and dogs both. So I thought I’d ask.
