My dog been doing this for 1 year since Summer… Visit the vet 4 times, they all say it is allergy. Tried different allergy medicine but didn’t work. My dog eats well, plays well, behaves the same except this coughing/sneezing sign. Can someone tell me what is this?? Someone told me it could be heart worm which I dont think so…

Someone told us that our 10year old outside dog has heartworms because he won’t eat nor drink very much. He will eat a little chicken breasts ( maybe 2 little pieces at a time) and a little water if we hold a bowl in front of him. I have even given him a couple of tablespoonfuls of Karo syrup. He does not throw up nor has blood in his stool. We were also told that if he has heartworms that he would be coughing, but he doesn’t. He has lost weight.

Coughing, lack of appetite and sever weight loss are signs of Heartworms…Take him to the Vet

I gave my pekingese worm medicine two days ago. Yesterday she started a hacking like cough like she was trying to cough a hairball. Is this related to the worm treatment? I would suppose that it is since she has not done this before? Thanks

The cough could be caused from worms migrating through the body. It’s gross I know but they do that. Most dewormers will not kill migrating larvae or the ova (eggs). Take you dog to the vet if this continues. Also not all dewormers kill all worms and most need to be repeated. So again talk to your vet about what’s best for your dog.

I have a 2 1/2 year old female, pure bred blue-nosed APT. She’s 65 lbs, always been very healthy, current on all vaccines, we give her a heart worm pill every month & she suddenly has been having this dry, hacking cough that started this weekend. Her parents never had any serious conditions and we haven’t taken her to the dog park in a few months. She hasn’t been to any vet offices, groomers, or anything which would include other dogs or animals. She’s been drinking water and her coat’s elasticity seems to be normal. We also have 2 other American Pits that are showing no similar symptoms. She has had a slight dis-intrest in her food but she’s still energetic and seems to be normal. She has a vet appt. on Friday but I was wondering if anybody had a dog with similar symptoms? Or even might know what it is? I have done a little research on it but it could be anything! I’m hoping it’s just allergies but she has never had this before! Any info would be greatly appreciated!
