Question by Hat Trick – Agnostic Missionary: My dog has ringworm and the vet prescribed meds that cost 350$ ! WTF?!?!?
Should I try to get treatment somewhere else? The dog looks to be in PERFECT health, except for a small leison in her ear. I looked online and apparently some people treat it with head & shoulders shampoo and other cheap OTCs. Anyways since I’m not made of money just wanted to check before doling out the cash.
The vet called the meds into Walgreens, and yes this is meds only. What is really bizarre is she has a tiny spot of it. She was getting her check up and shots and we actually pointed it out to our vet to see what this spot in her ear was… anyways I’m starting to think that our vet is just crazy because I spoke with him later on the phone and he asked me if I had a cat which was totally stunning because he had just performed a surgery on my cat 2 weeks earlier!

Answer by Night_owl Depends on the medication and what they are charging. Generally in my experience no more than $ 30 for the medication- the fecal analysis if they run one is generally around $ 30 and if the pup hasn’t had an exam at that vet then they will most likely require that as well- and the price of an exam can vary greatly by area.

Recently rescued a litter of puppies from the local shelter. They have bald spots. We were told they may possibly have ringworms. We will be bringing them to the vet first thing tomorrow morning. I just took in a homeless puppy and he needs wormed and vaccinated but my budjet is tight.It never seemed to cost this much to have a dog. It used to be , you took them to the vet and they womed them and, vaccinated them in one day. now they want to do alot more, and they want you to come back for more visits. These things I never needed to do before and all my dogs lived long healthy , happy lives.
