How do I know what kind of worm it is? I had over the counter wormer in my house but it said it was for roundworms and hookworms. The tapeworm is described as being seen in small dried pieces. This doesn’t look like roundworm as she has had that before but there aren’t any tiny/small pieces like described in tapeworm. Only long ones. Help?

Take the dog to the vet, or at least bring in a stool sample, so that they can check to see what kind of worms they are.

I read that dogs can get whipworm from drinking infected water and a lady at 1-800 ped meds told me they can get in the water when another dog drinks in your dog’s bowl. Is this true?

I just recently got a puppy and i didn’t know it has worms. They are coming out of her anus so i suppose they are tapeworms. My problem is that i am freaken out because she has been laying in my lap alot and also sleeping in my arms. Is there any way possible that i could get ANYTHING from them? Is there any signs or symptoms i need to look for to ensure that i’m not infected with anything?

Are you ingesting the worm fragments or her poop? Then no, just wash your hands and be sensible when handling her feces…get her to a vet and get her on wormer.

Fleas, exposure to eggs carried in on your shoes or clothes. Worm eggs are minute and can be picked up if you walk through the area they are in.

**** edit**** Worms can be fatal however it has nothing to do with shots. Worms absorb the nutrients therefore the dog doesn’t get the calories to survive. ALL dogs should be on a worming schedule for intestinal and heart worm. Speak to your vet.

No kind way to say this, I noticed a yellowish/offwhite worm near the rear end of my 3 year old basset this morning. The worm looked like a larvae.

Am I correct in concluding that my dog has worms?

It’s likely a section of a tapeworm. Probably due to having fleas.
