Question by curious: can dewormer or medication for nausea cause constipation in dogs?
My newly adopted dog just started dewormer for hookworms yesterday at 6:30 and has not pooped since. She is also on medication for nausea. Do either one or both cause constipation? She has not even tried to potty. I have taken her out several times, she just sniffs around for a while and then is ready to go back inside.

does she eat? well its possible that it may be constipation, but it could be the medication. the medication might have side effects which may cause this problem!

He’s been acting perfectly normal..so I just want to know if they cause geniune discomfort. He was running wildly around fine in the snow…soo.. And he’s getting medication for it…

Probably because dog fleas are parasites that usually don’t kill the host, while the bacteria that cause pneumonia are oppurtunistic pathogens, they live in your body at all times, but when your immune system is weakened that is usually when the bacteria make their way into your lungs and cause pneumonia. In the process of this bacteria causing pneumonia, they make their host sick and could possibly kill them, and killing the host would therefore kill themselves, making it a lose lose situation. Or if the person was just sick, they wouldn’t be providing the proteins in normal amounts that the bacteria may need to survive. On the other hand with dog fleas, they live on the dog, and yes bother them, but usually they don’t kill the dog, so the dog goes on with its everyday life, and provides the fleas with the thing they need to survive continuously. So they live bothering the dog, without killing the dog, and survive. I hope this makes sense.

we had a ham for Christmas dinner and i want to give the left overs to my dogs but my mom says that pork gives a dog worms. And im thinking how can a dog get worms from cooked meat??

Can A Parvo Shot Cause A False Positive On A Parvo Feces Test?

I got a 12 week old puppy from the human society yesterday and they gave him a parvo shot along with his other normal puppy shots (?) and a heart worm shot. We got him home and the first hour or so he was very playful and energetic but after that he slept the rest of the day. He only ate and drank very little. During the night he threw up 2-3 times and has no other symptoms. This morning we to him to the Vet and they did a feces parvo test. It came back positive. We took him back to the humane society but they told us the parvo shot can cause the (false) positive test results. I called another animal clinic, for a second opinion, and they agreed with the humane society in that it could be just the shots effecting him and that a false positive on the parvo test is likely.
I have searched the internet and I can’t find any information on the false positive after the shots. If anybody has any information please let me know. For now we are keeping him for a couple of days to see how he feels or acts. I really want to save this dog but don’t have the money for parvo treatment.

Help! Kitty With Chronic Diarrhea And Our Vet Can’t Figure Out The Cause.?

Our kitty (16 weeks and a little over 3 lbs.) has had a bumpy start. After adopting him from a foster family, he was diagnosed with a URI and given Clavamox for his sneezing. He got progressively worse and a week or two later, we were told he had pneumonia and was spiking fevers and needed to be hospitalized for IV fluids and nebulizer treatments. Later that week, we were told that he was doing better, but the next day they said they suspected he had FIP and would need to be euthanized. Thankfully, we brought him home to spend a couple of days with us before they put him to sleep because he got better every day, with no fever and the only symptoms he had being diarrhea (2-3x/day) and signs of anemia (licking cement and trying to eat his clay litter.) We switched to newspaper based litter & his antibiotic was switched to Clindomycin and back to Clavamox. He was given Metronidazole for his diarreah, which only served to make it worse. Tests came back NEGATIVE for FIP, FIV, FeLV, Toxoplasmosis, and Bartonella. They said he was anemic and seemed to have liver issues/hepatitis. He is an indoor only kitty and has been treated for fleas and the vet *thinks* he was treated for heartworm and Giardia. (?) His current symptoms are the AWFUL diarrhea, trying to lick cement near the fireplace, and “butt dragging” like a dog with worms. His appetite and fluid intake is totally normal. The vet even had us change to a diet of canned venison or duck, suspecting a dietary intolerance, but there’s no change in the diarrhea. Anyone have any suggestions as to the possible cause or treatment? Our vet bill is in the thousands and we can’t afford to keep paying for what seems to be a guessing game. The only other thing suggested was a test for portosystemic liver shunt. HELP!
