Rocky

On June 4th PAWS received a call about an injured Min Pin in desperate need of rescue. Evidently, the dog was hit by a car. A good Samaritan took the dog to the emergency clinic, but since no one took responsibility for the cost of the emergency care, the dog was sent to the shelter and he was about to be euthanized. Luckily, the shelter rescue coordinator contacted us. We took the dog out with the intention of providing him with the care and treatments he needs. Initial diagnosis was: internal injuries, nerve damage and fractured hip. After x-rays were done, we found out that he has a shattered pelvis. Unfortunately, he was also diagnosed with Heartworms. We named the dog- Rocky, because we knew he was a fighter. On June 16th Rocky had an FHO surgery. He started therapy and he is making a remarkable recovery. Once Rocky was fully recovered from the surgery, he was scheduled to have Heartworm treatment. After the HW treatment, Rocky was placed in a new loving home.

How to get rid of tapeworms in cats/dogs?

Question by Snowflake: How to get rid of tapeworms in cats/dogs?
Is there another alternative (instead of the Vet giving shots/pills) to get rid of tapeworms in cats/dogs? Someone told me that a drop on iodine mixed with food each day for one month will kill heartworms in cats and dogs, but wasn’t sure of a “over the counter” med for tapeworms.

Go to petsmart and get a tapeworm medication. Make sure they are indeed tape worm. They are if they look like rice. It is about $ 10-20 for the meds. I would definitely check with a vet before I started adding Iodine to my dogs food.
