Question by ashley m: How long will a dog “pass worms” after you give him worm medicine?
I have a 5 week old dachshund and he has worms. I gave him worm medicine about 6 hrs. ago and he has passed several worms. He hasn’t passed any in 3 hrs and I want to know how long it takes until they are gone.

It can take several treatments for all the worms to pass. Most vets give them over a three week period. There are some treatments that are very strong and are given in a single pack or pill. As far as the worm,s themselves I usually find the major part of them pass in the first few bowel movement,s, which can be very nasty.
So it is not strange to see a stray one pass a week or two later.
I think the instructions should tell you that the extra treatments are just to make sure that the animal dose not have a reassurance of the problem’s. Hope this helps.

Question by American Eskimo Luver: I am getting a rescue dog who just recovered from heart worm?
So I am getting a dog from the shelter and he had stage four heart worm, they didn’t think he would make it, but he did. Then he had baby heart worms and we got to see him and everything and they said he could only go on short walks while he had the baby worms. Well now that he is cured and everything, will he always have to only go on short walks or can he go on a long walk and possibly a short jog?
It has been like a week.

I use to work as a vet tech and my dog actually ended up with heart worms…we treated her and she is fine, lazy but fine! Long walks shouldn’t be a problem..how long has it been?

Question by str8putter: How often do you worm your dog(s)???
I worm my dogs every six months.
I just got worming medication from the vet , and when the tech asked me “do you see worms ?” and I said “no” , she said ” why are you worming?”
Well, I am not waiting til they HAVE worms to fix the problems I told her, why not fix the problem before you have the problem?
What do you do?
I have wormed like this for 10 + years and never had a problem with any worms…. They go to the vet for shots every year, get rabies, parvo and all regulated shots, boardatella (for kennel cough , cuz we board some).
But if you just don’t worm, thats wrong I think… you could have dogs that are infested and eating their insides with parasites
Both of mine are also on K9 Advantix Plus .
Well maintained and overly loved… I would never do anything to do any harm to either of them.
