4 Day Fever That Won’t Go Away! Any Advice?

Ok.. my daughter who is 19 months old.. developed a low grade fever Friday afternoon which continued on till Sunday, when her temp spiked to 103.6. So we took her to the ER and had her checked out, her only other symptom to the fever is a runny nose, clingy, tired all the time, and a little cough. The docs checked her chest (did an xray), they did a catheter to check for UTI, they did blood work and nothing came back with anything… so they said to continue to do motrin/tylenol every four hours like we have been doing. Today is Tuesday and she still has the fever, not quite so high.. but still restless sleep, eating pretty good I would say, and drinking lots of fluid. But she still has a fever that won’t go away. I called our doc.. but she hasn’t gotten back to us yet!!! So what the heck? I’ve tried luke warm baths, I’ve put only a t-shirt on her to run around in, she sleeps with just a sheet, and she still wakes up crying and whimpering. My DH just got home and we found out our puppy we just got has worms… can this be why my daughter might be sick? I’m going to talk to the doc when she calls, but I’m just wondering if this is a cause? She doesn’t really like the dog, so she doesn’t touch him. And if he goes in the house I immediately pick it up and clean the carpet… so what can cause a fever for 4 days and continuing? And why would the docs not give her antibiotics when she is this sick and obviously her body is trying to fight something off??? Sorry.. just a worried mom who never had to do this with my 3 y/o. Any advice would be great… thanks everyone!!

I sold my pug puppy to a pug-experienced woman (who already had 4 pugs in her home). He was perfectly healthy when I delivered him to her home (after driving an hour and half just so I could see the place). I spent an hour or more in her home to be sure he would get along with the other dogs, and so that I felt he would be happy there. I gave her a copy of his shot record, and disclosed anything and everything I could think of that she could need to know about him. A week later, AFTER she took him to the vet for a checkup and he received a clean bill of health from her vet (other than the typical worms, which all animals get at some point or another), she e-mails me to tell me that he died after emergency surgery for an obstruction in his intestines. I am distraught over his death, because I trusted this person to take care of my baby. All of the research I have done online concerning obstruction in puppies says you should see symptoms within 12-15 hours. He had no symptoms. In fact, for the first few days after she had him, he was fine. THEN he stopped eating. Her house was not dirty, but cluttered, which adds to my concern that he ingested something in her home that would not pass. He was still a puppy, in the chewing phase, and I wondered if maybe she just bit off more than she could chew in getting another pug.
My question is this: can she try to sue me to cover the medical bills? I have an mp3 of her voicemail where she states that her doctor says the dog is fine. I have saved every e-mail between the two of us, and I have been nothing but honest when addressing her concerns. I feel that he ate something at her home and now, since she had him only a week, she is going to try to say it was something he ate at my home. Help, please???

Help Me Please????(:?

Okay… So I posted this yesterday:
My 4 1/2 month old Great Dane mix has worms, at least I think so.
My dad said He saw some in her stool when He took her out this evening. I am gonna call the vet tomorrow and see what I should do. But She doesn’t really have any other symptoms. She doesn’t have a big belly.. Well no bigger than usual. And She runs around and plays a lot. But I still need to take her to the vet right? And get some de-wormer?
I pretty sure She got it from my sister’s kitten (which she doesn’t take to the vet or anything), because my dog got into her poop a a few days ago… She got into it like 3 or 4 times. It drives me insane! It’s so gross!!!!! lol.
BTW.. She’s up to date on all her shots.. Except maybe one that she needs to get in a couple weeks, but I just took her Saturday and she got Rabies and something else. I can’t remember. lol.
I’m gonna call tomorrow and see when they can fit her in, but I’m not sure if it’ll be tomorrow. And I really at least want to start de-worming her ASAP because I’m going to have her spayed on the 1st of July.
Now.. On to today’s question:
I’ve tried calling the vet like all morning and ever time I’ve called there has either been no answers or the phone is busy.
So, I was wondering what I should do? Should I just wait and call later on tonight. Or should I just drive up there w/o my dog and tell them what I think is wrong w/ her? Thanks! :)

Could My Parvovirus Positive Puppy Have Been Saved?

Just got the dog Saturday he had 2 sets of shots was due for last in 3 weeks. He was very alert and active but barely ate or drank much Saturday or Sunday, which we thought was because he came frome a breeder down South to us up North (this was a long plane ride for an 11 week old puppy). On Monday he was really tired and had 2 loose stools and I took him to the vet in the evening. I asked if the dog could possibly have had parvo and he said no probably just worms. He tried a rectal stool test but not enough to run the test. Tuesday puppy still lethargic and had gel-like stool, took sample to vet came back parvo. Immediately took puppy to hospital started on iv fluids and the said could only treat the symptoms. In hospital puppy began vomiting same day (Tuesday)& extremely lethargic. Wednesday white cell count dropping and albumin level low. Puppy had a transfusion Wed evening and looked a little better. They kept trying to feed puppy even though he would vomit and still had loose stools. Thursday morning puppy seemed better-kept some food down. I asked vet about Tamiflu and she said we could try but not enough studies to support its use. By afternoon puppy took a turn for worse, having bloody stool and white blood cell count bottoming out. I asked about Neupogen she again said not enough studies to prove effectiveness. Puppy so weak he was lying in his own bloody poo which everyone knows a dog won’t do. He was suffering so much so we had him put to sleep. Of course now I am still questioning did we do everything right? Does anyone know of something we overlooked? I think I brought up some things to these 2 vets they weren’t looking at but I am at such an emotional loss right now. Not like it matters but between the vet visit, testing and the slightly over 2 days hospitalization and euthanization this has been approx. $4000 out of pocket. We became so attatched to him after only having him in our house for 3 days (I’m crying as I write this). Again, could anything else have been done? I want to be armed with info if I or anyone has to go through this…THANKS!

What Will De-wormer Do To My Dogs?

Hi! I have two dogs. A 4 month old Chihuahua and a Dachshund that is nearly two years old. My Chihuahua has been acting funny here lately. Diarrhea and not eating as well as she normally does. The vet said she probably had worms and she had me come buy and pick up some de-wormer pills. SHe said it would be best to give them my Dachshund as well since they live together (even though he’s not showing the same symptoms as the Chihuahua). Anyway, she said that the dogs wouldn’t require any extra care after I gave them the pills. But I’ve heard from some coworkers that de-wormer can make dogs really sick. Should I keep them outside for a few hours after I give them the medication or will they be ok in their normal inside environment going outside every 3-4 hours?
Also, I forgot to ask my vet this, (i may call her later and ask her) but I have a cat as well. Should I give him some wormer too? Does it have to be the same vet strength or can the OTC brand work on him?
