Hi
Ringworm is a fungus, not an actual worm. This is often found in unsanitary conditions.
Best of luck.
Ring worm is an infection caused by a fungus. Fungal infections are very hard to get rid of – you need to take the dog to the vet to get proper medicine.
lol.
No, he’s not going to die. Ringworm is a fungus. It’s very similar to athletes foot actually. The whole dog house needs to be cleaned out, including the bedding, with bleach.
It is contagious to some humans, but is definitely not deadly.
Part of the problem may be that fungus grows best in warm moist atmospheres. A dog house is a perfect place for the dog to keep getting reinfected. He needs to be inside, but I know that’s not up to you.
Continue with the vets instructions, but if they dont’ help, go back for another look.
Yes, give him his medication. Give the poor think fresh water all thru out the day – how would you like to drink water that been sitting in a dish outside for 3 days??? come on now….
take him back to vet and have him tested again.. Also, wash his bedding please.
his water should be refreshed everyday or he might get sick from something else too. good luck.
Ringworm is actually not a worm at all, it’s an infection and I hope you got the right medicine from your vet to cure the dachshund. You need to use it until the ringworm is gone.
Dachshunds should NOT be kept outside – they are very much companion animals and hate to be alone, away from their family.
If you cannot care for this dog properly and bring him inside, please consider giving him up to a breed rescue so that he can find a good home where he will be inside with his people as he should be.
Do a search for a dachshund rescue in your area and see if they can take him – it’s awful to keep dachshunds outside like that.
Ringwom is caused by parasitic fungi, and is called ringworm because it looks like a ring-shaped worm on the skin. It is not fatal but it is contagious, and can spread to humans. It is very itchy.
To treat it:
Often it heals by itself, but if not, you want to clip the hair around it very close to the skin (shave it, if you will). Anti-fungal treaments, medicines, and shampoos work as well. Keep your dog away from other dogs when it has ringworm, as it is so contagious that simple skin-to-skin contact with a human or another animal can pass it on.
I hope that answered your question.
Use Tinactin Antifungal cream on it at least twice a day…Remember to wash your hands afterwards. If it isn’t kept up on it will keep coming back.
Go to your local health food store and ask for some Neem oil. It comes from a tree in India. Apply it twice a day. It is a natural remedy for fungal infections.
