How much should it cost to get a dog wormed and vaccinated. It seems that some vets over do it to make extra $

I just took in a homeless puppy and he needs wormed and vaccinated but my budjet is tight.It never seemed to cost this much to have a dog. It used to be , you took them to the vet and they womed them and, vaccinated them in one day. now they want to do alot more, and they want you to come back for more visits. These things I never needed to do before and all my dogs lived long healthy , happy lives.

Depends on where you live, and the area the vet is in. There can be a huge difference in vet prices in the same city.
I agree that dogs are having a lot more done for them. I also think most dogs nowadays are being over-medicated, but I also think little kids are too.
There is research being done stating that we are actually hurting our dogs by giving them so many vaccinations. I know growing up the rule of thumb was two vaccines, now some people reccommend four.
vets suggest most things to make money ..in all the yers iv owned dogs IV NEVER taken them for the yearly jabs that they bleat on about, they had there jabs when they were pups but didnt have any after that and all lived into old age, were never wormed regular unless i had to do it, i dont see the point, it dont make me a bad owner but if they are showing no signs of worms wots the point in treating , if im honest they do get a daily dose of garlic but thats it, and they havent had there yearly jabs..vets sell you wormers but the ingredients are the same as wots in the sold ones its just people dont check coz the vet sells them they assume they are the nuts and they aint xx

Wormed and vaccinated should be no more than about $25.I do know a vet that charges $31 just for deworming and $50 for a bunch of unneccesary vacines to make money.I take my dog to the Humane Society for vaccinations. Much cheaper and they don’t rip you off.
Go to walmart (or any other store that has a pet section by you) and by dog dewormer, and follow the instructions on the bottle. For the shots you can go to a feed supply store and buy the parvovirus/distemper (all in one) shot… around New Mexico, it runs about 7 bucks a shot, and give the dog a shot yourself. All you have to do is warm up the vaccine on the counter for about 30 mins… it needs to be room temp. Gather your dog, put it on a table and lift up the scruff of the neck and inject the vaccine right under the skin. If the dog scratches at it’s neck, it was a ggod shot. I do it this way all the time, it’s much cheaper and saves you a trip to the vet for something you can do yourself. Rabies shots, however will have to be given at a vet.
Take your pup to a low cost spay/neuter clinic like Petluv – they do all the vaccinations and deworming too, very reasonably.
Call your Humane Society for a reference to a clinic if you don’t find one in the yellow pages or online in your area.
A lot of people use these clinics, they are wonderful, very helpful and reasonable.
Thank you for taking in a homeless pup, now please do make sure he is vaccinated and wormed and neutered and he will be a lucky pup that you found him and give him a good home.
there are a few options that you have for cheap vaccines/de-worming.
you can do it yourself, i don’t know the website but a friend of mine used to order the stuff and vaccinate them herself. she had around 20 cats and 5 dogs
petco offers cheap vaccinations. you could check in the a local store when “Luv My Pets” is going to be there. they’re certified vets and very professional. i take my youngest cat there to get vaccinated. they’ll send you home with a container that you have to mail in so the can test for worms, mail you the results and tell you when and where to go for a deworming, if needed
shelters and sometimes the town hall will be able to help you
out where i live there’s a place called island rescue. they offer cheap vetinary sevices.
once in a blue moon you’ll find a vet that’s cheep or, even better, is willing to do it for free or less than the usual cost. it’s rare but don’t forget, they’re vets because they love animals

It’s never been one vaccine only for dogs, or for humans. Boosters are always needed because acquired immunity does not last. Up to what you do and why, but please get the straight facts from your vet before you make a decision.
My first cat was not vaccinated, but I recognise it was just luck that she lived to 18. I’m not going by luck with any future pets, I’ve seen too many animals die from horrible, and entirely preventable diseases.
Everyone thinks vets only advise boosters etc to make money – do they not realise vets make a lot more money out of treating preventable diseases like parvo and cat flu? They’d make more money if no one ever vaccinated their pets because diseases would be so rife!!
