I just recently got a 10 week yellow lab on 2/4/09 and we had him for a week now. I just had his 2nd shots on 2/5/09, then de-wormed him on 2/7/09. Also, the breeder was 2 weeks late on his second set of shots.
Last night he started to have 100% diarrhea, then it transferred into 90% mucus and 10% wet solid stool. Today he is starting to vomit yellow fluids, and his fecal matter is back to normal, but still slightly wet. He is not lethargic as he still plays with his toys and us. I cut out his old food(Puppy Chow-Vet recommended it) and I am now giving him rice/chicken till his stool becomes regular. In addition, my girlfriend and I are giving him Pedialyte every 20 mins. I am bringing him to the vet tomorrow, and we are just taking all precautionary methods just in case for the worst news. We’re first time dog owners and we are slightly inexperienced with this stuff. My concern is that he is developing a new symptom everyday and none of them seem to simultaneously. Lastly, he has a fever that seems to leave and come back….
Any suggestions or personal experiences or help of any kind would be greatly and deeply appreciated.
Thanks in advance

It doesn’t actually sound like Parvo (good news). But it definitely sounds like a virus. Dogs can get stomach viruses just like people. Parvo would result in very watery, extremely foul smelling, often times bloody diarrhea and the dog itself would develop an “off” smell. The fact that the stool is firming up at all is a good sign that this is not parvo. You sound like you are doing the right things. Keep it up until you can get the puppy to the vet in the morning to diagnose the problem definitively.

Only a vet can tell you if it is Parvo and every second counts so please go asap. sometimes a dog can have parvo at the time of vaccination therefore the vaccination has no effect. My dog had parvo but I got him to the vet in time. He was very lethargic and it hurt his tummy when I picked him up (because the stomach fills with gas). Despite taking him very early on he still needed 4 nights at the vets on a drip and was very sick.
So if there is any chance that you suspect Parvo don´t waste time. Hopefully it´s just a bug.

Parvo has a very distinct smell. It smells of sick and rotting; you’ll know it when you smell it. The smell is caused by blood being present in the vomit, urine, and stool of the dog. Have you noticed any blood? It needs to be more than just diarrhea; there needs to be blood present. You’re dog isn’t vomiting, which is a great sign. It is normal for dogs to have parvo but no show signs, but since your dog is showing ’signs’ that aren’t parvo like… it’s possible that he has giardia or some other sickness less severe than parvo.
