I got a 12 week old puppy from the human society yesterday and they gave him a parvo shot along with his other normal puppy shots (?) and a heart worm shot. We got him home and the first hour or so he was very playful and energetic but after that he slept the rest of the day. He only ate and drank very little. During the night he threw up 2-3 times and has no other symptoms. This morning we to him to the Vet and they did a feces parvo test. It came back positive. We took him back to the humane society but they told us the parvo shot can cause the (false) positive test results. I called another animal clinic, for a second opinion, and they agreed with the humane society in that it could be just the shots effecting him and that a false positive on the parvo test is likely.
I have searched the internet and I can’t find any information on the false positive after the shots. If anybody has any information please let me know. For now we are keeping him for a couple of days to see how he feels or acts. I really want to save this dog but don’t have the money for parvo treatment.
Thanks for your help.

    Yes
Parvo is shed in the feces for up to one week.
But the MLV in the parvo vaccine has also been known to cause the disease, especially in small dogs because the load can be so high. If he overcomes the injection within the next 24hrs, he should be ok. If not then you might loose the dog to the disease without treatment.
Remember this is a modified live virus, so supposedly it should not spread. But if the load of vaccine itself was too high for the dog to handle, it can hurt him.

This really depends on how strong a positive the dog tested. If it was a weak positive, then it can be the shot. If it was a Strong positive, i would say the dog has parvo. I would talk some more with the vet and ask.

I have no idea. . . But PLEASE keep me posted on what happens with the Animal shelter.
About two months ago, i adopted a puppy from a shelter. . . brought her to the vet a week and a half later, and was diagnosed with parvo. Long story short, she passed, and the shelter refuses to pay for it.
Now there is this long going issue between us and the shelter. . . They’re refusing to pay for it. . . so i guess it’d be nice to know what happens with you. Good luck.

If you have had the puppy only since yesterday then they probably gave you a sick puppy. Call the humane society and see if there is any recourse to THEM treating the dog instead of you.
I know pet stores have to treat the puppies they sell if they are sick- my veterinarian works on retainer treating puppies from pet stores that are sick-
however your adoption contract might have a clause or something saying they aren’t responsible.
I’d say call the humane society and ask them what they can do for you- they might be willing to treat the puppy with no cost to you since the puppy obviously didn’t catch parvo while it was with you- the incubation period in my experience is several days.
